Amid rumors of marital infidelity, rising star, female Republican gubernatorial candidate, Nikki Haley, became the front-runner in the race for Governor of the conservative state, South Carolina. She won the primary with 65% of the vote while her opponent, Representative Gresham Barrett, the four-term congressman, earned only 35%.

Back in May, Will Folks, FITSNews.com blogger, released cell phone records in an attempt to prove that he and Nikki Haley carried on an affair. The records showed calls were made between the two in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Folks claimed that he and Haley had an, “inappropriate physical relationship.” Haley admits that the two spoke but claimed that Folks worked as her consultant. She adamantly denied the rumors.

Haley presented her victory speech at the entrance to the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum. She is now a full step closer to becoming the first female governor of South Carolina, a state known for leaning conservatively and its “old-boy network.”  She has the backing of Sarah Palin and tea party activists.

Former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney commenting on Haley’s victory, “Against the longest of odds, Nikki Haley took on the political establishment and won.”
