Studies are mixed and it is difficult to follow the ever-changing information that is fed to the public. However, recent research is showing that coffee does have its perks.

A recent study has shown that those who drink coffee regularly will enjoy a 39% decrease in their risk of developing cancer of the head and neck. Four or more cups of coffee per day showed significantly fewer cancers affecting the mouth and throat over those who do not consume coffee.

“Coffee contains more than a thousand chemicals, some of which have antioxidant and antimutagenic activities,” assistant professor of medicine for the University of Utah, Mia Hashibe, the study’s lead researcher told Life’s Little Mysteries. “Further research is necessary to identify which ingredients in coffee are responsible for the results we observed in our study.”

Studies have also shown coffee is beneficial for our cardiovascular systems. The risk of cardiovascular disease was cut by 24% in woman who consumed one to three cups of coffee per day.
