Knight and Day Loses Steam Fast
The opening scene is riveting and promises excitement and adventure will follow, and then……nothing.
Director, James Mangold, of “3:10 to Yuma”, sets the scene at the airport where Cameron Diaz’s character, June, runs into Tom Cruise’s character, Roy Miller, two times within 10 minutes. When she realizes that she is seated on the same plane as him, she is thrilled, who wouldn’t be! Things get dicey when only four people are on the plane (two pilots and two cabin crew) and they all try to murder Miller, unsuccessfully, leaving him to land the airplane in a cornfield.
While there is fun to be had in the midst of the mayhem that consumes this film, the action sequences get carried away and become overkill.
It’s not the worst summer movie you can see. But Cruise gained his movie-star stature doing films that were of more substance. This one is redundant and repetitious leaving movie goers feeling a bit empty on the way out the door.
