So miffed about his loss to Daniel Brands at Wimbledon, the Romanian player appeared to lose all traces of his sanity. He intentionally foot faulted, retired without warning and was denied a post-match handshake by the umpire. But the worst display of poor sportsmanship was when he spit in the direction of the crowd.

Lucky for Hanescu, he escaped a lifetime ban from the All England Club. Instead, he was fined a total of $15,000 (USD) for his unsportsmanlike behavior.

Video of the incident revealed Hanescu reacting in a negative manner to comments from the crowd. He then quit his match against the German player, Daniel Brands.

Andrew Jarrett, the championships’ referee at the All England Club said of the incident, “Victor Hanescu has been fined $7,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct and a further $7,500 for not using best efforts at the conclusion of the match. No further comment will be made by the Referee or the chair umpire.”
