Chris Brown Breaks Down
“Blubbering Chris Brown steals show at BET Awards,” PopEater.com mocked in its headline in response to R&B singer Chris Brown’s performance on the BET Awards. The disgraced singer has not been seen much since he plead guilty to assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna last year.
The audience at the BET Awards seemed eager to help him finish the song he was too chocked up to belt out. It was a tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.” Perhaps a telling glimpse into his own smeared reflection.
But not everyone is buying Brown’s attempt at sincere emotion. The LA Times surveyed readers asking “Was Chris Brown faking it at the BET Awards?” Twenty one percent thought it was a farce, but 40 percent believed he was sincere; while another 12% thought him to be overdoing it.
“I think people felt, in terms of the dance tribute he did, I think people enjoyed that and were reminded that in spite of his past behavior and actions that he’s a talented person,” said Kirthana Ramisetti, Predicto.com managing editor, says. “But when he started crying, you get a mixed reaction as to what’s motivating that.”
