Steve Carell To Take Permanent Vacation from The Office
“I think [season] 7 will be my last year,” Carell reportedly said in an interview. “I want to fulfill my contract. I think it’s a good time to move on.” He plans to leave the popular comedy series at the end of the upcoming television season in May 2011.
When questioned about whether or not he could be persuaded to stay Carell said, “No. I just want to spend more time with my family.”
Carell, 47, hinted at his departure during a BBC radio interview last April. There is no talk about who might replace him and how his departure will affect the show. Carell won a Golden Globe award for his role.
In an interview with Us Magazine, Carell said of his impending departure, “These are some of my best friends in the world! But it will be good — it will be good for everybody.”
The show is based on the British mocumentary created and made popular by Ricky Gervais, who played the lead role.
