Paris Hilton, reportedly in Johannesburg, South Africa to attend the 2010 World Cup, was detained Friday by authorities on drug charges.

Hilton and photographer, Jennifer Rovero, were detained near the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium after police smelled marijuana. The two women were approached when a marijuana cigarette was seen thrown to the floor. According to a police statement, they were taken into custody on possession charges at the stadium during the quarter final match between the Netherlands and Brazil.

Hilton’s publicist, Dawn Miller, told CNN that the incident “was a complete misunderstanding, and it was actually another person in the group who did it. The authorities have apologized for wrongfully accusing her since she had nothing to do with the incident.”

Hilton’s publicist reportedly said that no charges will be filed against her. However, Rovero was issued a fine totaling 1,000 rand ($130) or 30 days in jail. A spokesman for the immigration department in Port Elizabeth said that Rovero has been given two weeks to exit the country and is not allowed back in for a minimum of two years.
