Rayman: Origins Going HD And Possibly 3D!

Back in 1995, Ubisoft released Rayman on the Atari Jaguar, PS1 and Sega Saturn and since then I have had a soft spot for the limbless hero.

The original Rayman spawned two direct sequels in Rayman 2: The Great Escape (N64, Dreamcast, Playstation 1 and 2) and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox, PS2) as well as a whole bucket load of spin-offs and a few weeks ago at E3 Ubisoft announced Rayman: Origins and along with it a gameplay trailer which you can watch right now….

As you can see, the artwork is simply stunning and at times, especially during the blacked-out sequence; had me thinking I was watching a cartoon. Ubisoft Montpellier will be releasing Rayman: Origins on the PSN, XBLA with versions for Wii, Nintendo 3DS and iPad to be considered, though you can probably guarantee that Ubisoft will want Origins on the 3DS and iPad for sure.

Over at the Rayman: Origins blog, (just type it into google) you’ll find a handy little FAQ that Ubisoft posted which states that the game will be episodic in nature, much like the upcoming Sonic 4 with the first episode to be released this holiday season.

The FAQ also revealed that the game engine Ubisoft Montpellier used to create the stunning visuals will be available open source in 2011.

Also the FAQ hints at a two-player co-op mode which, well, would be nice wouldn’t it?

Can’t wait for this one.

Wow. I love the artwork and graphics on this one. It looks like a modern cartoon and in High Def too! Can’t wait to see how it looks like in 3D. The Nintendo 3DS surely is the future and I’m glad they are leading us to it.
