Could Paramount Be Thinking Of Making Mission Impossible 4 Without Tom Cruise?

According to a THR article, Paramount Studios are thinking about going ahead with Mission Impossible 4 without Tom Cruise.

Apparently, the studio is monitoring the oversees success of Cruise’s latest movie; Knight & Day which co-stars Cameron Diaz, and should the movie gross less than two hundred million dollars then it is thought that Paramount will recast the role of Ethan Hunt.

One exec, who is not associated with MI4 said…

“It all depends on whether Tom Cruise brings in foreign bucks,”

While a former studio head said…

” ‘Mission: Impossible’ is a brand. It didn’t have anything to do with Tom Cruise in the beginning.”

Um, okay, I can see what he’s saying, the TV series didn’t have anything to do with Cruise but I think that the first and second Mission Impossible movies were the successes they were because of Cruise’s status as the most bankable actor in Hollywood at that time.

Replace Cruise and you’re going to have to reboot. Simple as that.
