This Is Kind Of A Big Deal – Anchorman 2 Was Nearly A Musical
Even though we’ve known for quite some time that we’ll probably never get an Anchorman 2 it still sucks.
What sucks even more is that Adam McKay, the director of Anchorman still continues to talk about “what could have been” had the sequel been given the green light.
McKay, in a recent interview with CHUD, revealed that Anchorman 2 was being prepped as a musical.
Here’s what he said…
“It was a musical. We were going to do four months on Broadway and then jump right into filming.”
Most people think that McKay was joking when he made that quote but personally, I think he was being honest. A Broadway run is exactly the kind of stunt I would expect Will Ferrell and co to pull. The idea is so stupid and crazy that it has to be true.
But, unfortunately for us Anchorman fans it looks like we’ll never see Ron Burgundy and his crew on screen again. I’ll leave it to actor Paul Judd to explain why…(he was talking to Empire)
“It wasn’t a smash hit opening weekend. It didn’t lose money, but it wasn’t The Hangover, so you look at the figures of when it was in cinemas and it’s not automatic. You don’t take into account DVD sales or how it’s grown over the years and so you punch in those numbers and a figure comes up for the budget and for what they might have in mind, there’s a chasm.”
