A rather unusual move, given the critical timing when all the top tennis players try to get in shape on hard court for the last tournament of the Grand Slam Series, the U.S. Open. But he must have his reasons. Andy Murray published a statement on is website on Tuesday, that after he had reviewed Miles Maclagan’s coaching needs, he decided to part company with him.

He went on to explain that the situation will be reviewed after the U.S. Open (August 30 to September 12).

Maclagan has succeeded Brad Gilbert in 2007 as Andy Murray’s coach. Even though Murray did not specifically explain the reasons for his decision, experts speculate that he’s unsatisfied with the fact that he is still trying to claim his first Grand Slam title. Murray expressed thanks for Maclagan’s positive contribution to his career.

The British top ten player is currently playing a tournament in Los Angeles (Farmers Classic), his first one since his semifinal loss at Wimbledon.
