Rafael Nadal critizes UEFA
He is the number one tennis player in the world but also a die hard soccer fanatic. Rafael Nadal was not shy about lashing out at the UEFA because of their decision to exclude the La Liga Club from competing in the European competitions this season.
The UEFA is arguing that La Liga does not have sufficient financial resources.
Technically, Mallorca had qualified since they came in fifth in the league, however, the UEFA stated that the admission criteria has not been fulfilled, but did not specifically explain the situation in more detail. Mallorca has appealed the decision.
The Mallorca-born current Wimbledon and French Open Champion, Rafael Nadal, has expressed his disagreement in an interview with a Spanish TV station. He feels that the players have earned it and further to that, does not understand why economic reasons should prevent the club from playing in the European Champions League. Because after all, if this was the real concern behind the decision, practically all clubs in Europe would not be eligible for participating, since they all struggle with their finances.
Rafael Nadal is a shareholder and co-owner of the club but first and foremost, a devoted supporter and fan.
