Nobody really knows what’s going on with Chris Paul momentarily. He stated several times that he is alright with where he is now, playing for the New Orleans Hornets. On the contrary, his camp says the exact opposite: he wants a trade to another team.

But there are legal issues that prevent Paul from making public statements that he actually wants to be traded. If he was saying anything in that regard, he would be fined. There are a number of teams out there who want to learn more about Paul’s preferences, but now they have to be more careful than ever.

The NBA has issued a memo that went out to all teams, specifically making it clear that there must be no tampering with Chris Paul.

The news came rather unexpectedly. The memorandum was written as a general reminder to all NBA teams on the tampering regulations, but also explicitly addressing any illegal contact to Paul. In other words, if another NBA team is interested in placing Chris Paul under contract, they will have to go through the Hornets’ management.
