Harry Potter Fearful Of Being Typecast

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is hoping that his new movie The Woman in Black will help fans see him as more than Harry Potter.

Fearful of being typecast as everyone’s favourite boy wizard, Radcliffe, who will be playing a young dad in the upcoming movie is clinging to the hope that his turn in the mega-successful Potter franchise won’t have an adverse effect on the rest of his career.

Talking to the Los Angeles Times, the young actor said…

“It worries me [that fans will still see me as Harry Potter], but the challenge is to look like a dad and a young father. If I get that right, that is something that immediately separates me from Harry. The script is so good and the characters are so clear, there is actually reduced pressure on me to be constantly ‘different’, if you know what I mean. In other words, once people are into the story, they’ll be watching this really compelling movie and will stop – I hope – thinking about me.”

Woman In Black screenwriter Jane Goldman reckons there’s more to Radcliffe than just the Harry Potter role…

“I think there’s a clear-cut demarcation. He was playing a boy in the Potter films or perhaps a young adult. Here, he’s playing a man. Also I think in general today audiences know actors much more as individuals, there’s an awareness of them apart from their roles. Dan is a brilliant actor, and he’s much more than the person who played Harry Potter.”

The Woman In Black is due to hit the cinemas in 2011.

Good luck Harry, um, I mean Daniel…
