Del Toro Reveals That He And Peter Jackson Did Not Fight Over Hobbit Prequels
For those of you out there who figured the real reason for Guillermo del Toro walking away from the Hobbit prequels was due to some sort of personality clash with the God of Middle Earth; Peter Jackson, well; you’re wrong.
According to del Torro, he walked from the project before the two even had a chance to get on each other’s nerves.
Talking to the Los Angeles Times, del Toro revealed…
“We were at the stage where the collaboration was good. If there were going to be any issues, we never got to that stage [in development].”
He also went on to reveal that his decision to walk away wasn’t solely down to MGM’s financial troubles either…
“People kept misconstruing that it was MGM. It came from many factors. It wasn’t just MGM. These are very complicated movies, economically and politically. You have to get the blessing from three studios. It was really the fact that every six months we thought we were beginning, and every six months we got pushed [back]. And before you could blink, it was a year, and then it was two years.”
