Halo: Reach – The Battle Begins Trailer Looks Like More Of The Same
The new trailer for Halo: Reach’s single player campaign has hit the net.
From what I can see, save for a level where you get to fly a spaceship in space, Halo Reach looks like your usual Halo game.
The trailer is pretty uninspiring and I’ve got a feeling that it’s going to play like every other Halo game which in and of itself isn’t a bad thing if you’re into Halo but if like me, you’re a bit fed up with the usual formula then there’s nothing here to get overly excited about.
According to a recent survey conducted by GamesIndustry.biz; Halo: Reach was chosen by Industry professionals to be their pick for the top selling game of 2010.
Personally I think that award will go to Call of Duty: Black Ops.

man u r a FUCKING RETARD! i do love halo myself but even so how can u not like halo?!!! and its not more of the same, new armour abilites like armor lock, sprint, hologram and the rest add a completly new dimension to halo – SI WAT THE FUCK R U ON ABOUT YOU FUCKING RETARD!!!!! WHO AGREES WITH ME?!
I think of COD as a good “movie game”, it is very scripted and restrictive. Halo reach is far more diverse and to a high standard quality compared to any other game
Call of Duty fanboy right here. My opinion of Halo: Reach during beta was very mixed. The refresh of new ideas and gameplay was good, but the departure of the old halo multiplayer “feel” left me with a negative.
From what I’ve seen with the Campaign, forge and the firefight implemented into this game, I cannot generate any negative feelings towards this game anymore.
Even if Black Ops turns out to be the wet dream for reviewers, it won’t sway me.
Though the Internet is a free world, an obvious troll like thou who gets fed up with some metaphysical illusion as a “Halo formula” with utterly no respect for it simply shouldn’t be allowed to play shooters at all.
Halo is one of the last games you can call a true-to-the-heart classic FPS without looking like an old relic. Everything about from its space opera theme (one of the last good ones in the entertainment business) to its gameplay is well-rounded, fun, pays its respects for its roots, and never gets old.
You can just tell when a game dev like Guerrila or EA/Crytek gets blown out of the water by an outraged video game or sci-fi community for using the words “Halo-killer,” they’re flops with no talent who simply aren’t serious developers.
No doubt, Call of Duty has always been an innovative franchise, and people have respected it without blowing things out of proportion between it and Halo… except by innocuous fanboys like you. But you are just one huge fuck-up for thinking it’s other than your idea of the Halo “same-old” three years after CoD 4′s release.
Seriously, I’d rather shoot Elites the rest of my life rather than fire an awkward pellet gun that works just like every other pellet-shooting rifle in a game where every enemy dies in three shots no matter what.
I can bet anyone £4000 his XBL GT has ither RaPiiDzz, FuSiiOnZz or OpTic in it..
CoD: F4NB0Y warfare 2..
Halo: Reach is more of the same then? I mean I may be able to understand where you were coming from until it was that Black Ops deserved that award, what’s new in Black ops? oooooh Helicopters, yeah, that’s pretty much the same as saying space combat is the only new thing to Reach.
You are an idiot. Same formula, with new stuff. Bloom, armor abilities, space combat, customizable spartans, super forge, balanced weaponry, this is the definitive halo.
But if you enjoy messed up games, like COD, go ahead. Play em.
Dude, ur a fuckin IDIOT or a helpless CoD Fanboy of th ehighest caliber. Get a fucking Clue.
You, sir, are not qualified to be making any judgements about Halo Reach. You really think Treyarch can match anything Bungie does? Infinity Ward and Bungie are on par in terms of skill and quality, but please, Treyarch? Black Ops is the definition of “More of the Same”. Treyarch might do, what, one thing to make the game interesting? The only real interesting thing they do is add vehicles to their COD games, and even then they play like utter shit anyway. World at War was a crap game outside it’s zombies gamemode, and COD 3 was a fairly decent game, but nothing special. Judging by their track record, they cannot match Infinity Ward or Bungie in any sense at all. Before you try to pass judgement on something, perhaps you should consider that Black Ops does not deserve recognition for pretty much anything. All I have seen from them is more of the same, with the exception of the gameplay with the helicopter, with is nothing special in the end, considering that COD has done vehicle based levels before, and it’s not surprising they would add flying vehicles now. Black Ops has nothing over reach, for many, many reasons. Namely, they’ve got nothing on par with reach’s customization options or multiplayer quality. And they have nothing on par with the space sequence either, from what we’ve seen. I find your lack of credibility to be amusing. You should stop being a fanboy and stop writing articles if you intend to be a biased idiot.
You sir are a moron. Black Ops brings nothing new to the table and Halo has always been the better game. Stop crying just because you know Reach is going to spank Black Ops and break records doing it.
On the flip side, most of the people replying are morons. Reach is not better than H1,H2,H3 in every way. Reach IS a breath of fresh air when it comes to things like graphics, campaign, characters, mood, and the fact that you are part of a team instead of solo. Forge is going to be fresh, so will theater, firefight, all that good stuff that Black Ops cant even dream of having.
Reach is an absolute trash game when looking at multi-player. Sure armor abilities are fresh, but spawning with them? No. Not fresh, thats just another way reach will become more like call of duty. Reticle bloom? Great, so now aiming takes no skill and is random. Oh, and its more like call of duty.
And the biggest thing that is SUPER STALE about reach is the kill times and the movement speeds and the jump heights. I feel fat and slow (I played 300 games of the beta, was onyx, and am aware of the changes made since). Movement in Reach feels like I am forced to play on 1 sensitivity (I’m talking about movement speed here), its like everything happens so slowly that it is holding me back.
This is not “fresh”. Its dull, frustrating, and the only reason Reach will succeed on the multi-player side is because of it’s immense custom options and ability to change these things.
Regardless of how bad the movement and aiming (bloom) are…reach will still sell millions and be the better game.
In my opinion Halo Reach has more items to bring to the giant table that is gaming than any other game for three years, just like all the other Halos; no spazzy face movements and blood effects (cough, black ops, cough), amazing graphics, epic skyboxes, a FULL campaign (unlike any cod game), good online support that is fair and free of cheaters (do I even have to say it), a reasonable price tag, a loyal community, epic new matchmaking maps, vehicles and game modes, a game that is polished and perfected because of its beta, amazing forge, amazing storyline and 3 years worth of play time in it.
Every other game apart from black ops has one of these features, with MoH having a beta and Pokemon (yes, Im ranking Pokemon above Cod) having a loyal community, even though none of these games has all the features.
So tell me, why do you think CoD black ops deserves any awards? Original storyline perhaps (HAHA)?
Oh, and by the way, if you mean more of the same, do you mean more of the same epicness and thrills as Halo 3 had in 2007, where you couldn’t go past a games store without a guy in a masterchief costume selling games and doing photos?
Dude your an idiot. GTFO and go play MW2 you dumbass.
Lol. I can’t tell if this review was a comedic or serious one. Either way you’re good.
You’re either good at being ridiculously funny or terribly brain damaged.
wait, what? you’re saying halo reach is the same?
dude, Camp of Duty never gets any updates and more killstreaks don’t count as an update. nothing changes, only how the weapons look. the maps are full of BS camper spots and there are no weapons that take any skill. I played CoD before halo, and when I tried halo, I seriously threw CoD in the garbage can.
now you?
fail CoD fanboy article is fail
Yeah, I played CoD a lot, and I used to think Halo was sooo lame. Until I actually tried it out. And my guess is, you did not try the beta? You, good sir, is an ignorant COD fanboy.
Pure-Form Retardation has met it’s match.
What? But… the trailer has no game play, save for the space scene. How can you judge that?
I agree, COD will probably sell more. I’m personally eagerly waiting for both.
Fuck off you prick
Call of duty can suck my dick
As well as you can lend a lick
you’re just another FAGGOT
Seriously, get the fuck off.
CoD is always the same, have you even seen anything about Halo: Reach? No, of course you haven’t otherwise you wouldn’t write this retarded article.
Grow up.
so have you looked yet
The fact that you even mentioned call of duty is a total rofl. This is what happens when misinformed people write articles.
Hello you dumb weirdo OK so many things are wrong with you
1:Black ops is a repeat of all the Cod games
2:Check the charts halo reach is number 2 on the pre-order list
3:Halo doesn’t have a fan-base of winy n00bs that have no real life
Thank you and please go crawl back under your poorly built rock
You’re fucking stupid.
wtf are u talking about?? I doubt you even played the beta you fucktard
You are complaining about halo reach looking the same yet you are cheering on call of duty? CoD has been the same game with a diff skin for the last 3-4 yrs. No gameplay choices, and glitchy multiplayer. The halo Reach campaign trailer was to show of the campaign to (u guessed it) fans of Halo. your fanboyish opinion should not be #1 in google news.
Hurr Durr CoD Fanboy Hurr Durr
I remember the Armour abilites in halo 1, 2 and 3 they were so there, not. Reach has changed gameplay wise slightly, the story is a dark story about the fall of a planet. What will Black Ops be? Just another CoD, repetitive online play with crappy noob tubes and a very unbalanced gameplay. Zombie is coming back but FireFight will be better, honestly though, if you take Reach’s FireFight and WaW’s zombie mode considering that Black Ops and WaW zombie is the same, all fanboyism aside, there is so much more you can do in FF than zombie, in FF you can set who comes, when they come, how close you have to be before they shoot you, customize what skulls turn on and when. The AI does not act as if it know where you are, it will look for you, not just jump through a window and run at you. There is so much more that make Halo Reach Superior to Black Ops. You get to fly that helicopter, halo has flown since halo CE.
Never let a CoD fanboy write a halo article….
Besides!!! all CoD games are the sameeee!!
SO WHO ARE YOU TO SAY ALL HALO GAMES ARE THE SAME ?
I wonder if, after Black Ops turns out to be another massive pile of poop that was collecting at Treyarch’s poop factory for the past year, maybe some of the fanboys like this guy will start to realize just how bad a developer Treyarch is and stop buying their rip-off games which were only barely thrown together to make more money for Activision. In four months Black Ops will cost half-price and Treyarch will already be forcing you into buying a map pack, while Reach will only keep getting better.
Also it is incredibly ironic he is saying Halo is getting old and is just more of the same, when every single call of duty game has been almost identical in basic gameplay since the first PC release, which wasnt even made by Treyarch, they are literally coasting off the success of another developer who never deserved everything they got in the first place. Honestly the graphics havent improved much, especially for Treyarch (with the exception of the character and gun models which amount to half the game’s RAM and processing usage, this is done to make everyone think the graphics are good when the textures and everything else is horrible). Cod 5 and Cod 3 look almost exactly the same.
It disgusts me how easily Treyarch can sell copies when they have never once proved themselves to be good developers.
i respect your thoughts on the game but i just have this to say. Of course its going to feel like just another halo game cause thats what it is. A “Halo” game. Its not going to be like COD or mass effect or even bioshock. Cause there all different games. To a Halo fan Halo Reach is different cause it has new fog abilities and a new campaign and a more improved fire fight mode. I mean in my eyes every COD game feels the same. go here kill some people. go over here kill more people. So i can see why Halo feels the same to you. But its just that way cause its “Halo” there ment to feel like the same thing cause its a familiar investment lol
Are you for real? Have you even played the previous Halo games? This game is a breath of fresh air for the Halo franchise. The mood, the atmosphere, the setting, the characters… it’s all new. Graphics are massively improved over Halo 3 and game play has been been completely rethought. The “uninspiring” trailer that did so little for you literally gave me goosebumps. The story will be gritty, personal, and wrought with emotion in way that Halo games, or most other games for that matter, have never been before.
You DO realize that this is the most contraversial Halo release yet simply because it IS so different from the other ones? All Black ops has that’s not in the others is a helicopter and a crossbow.
Really? Its too similar to it’s other games? …and you are putting your faith into Black Ops? This article looks as if it were just written by a CoD fanboy with absolutely no knowledge on what they are talking about.
Every Call of Duty game has been exactly like the one before it with minor gameplay tweaks and you are calling Halo:Reach a repeat. FAIL….
Kid you’re the biggest faggot CoD fanboy I have ever seen. Halo will always be better then all other games. CoD has been the same game since CoD 4, unlike Halo which switched it up every single game.
Wow, this has to be the DUMBEST article about Reach on the internet. You say the formula is still the same right? Well then take a look at Black Ops, it looks like more of the same except for, oh no, a crossbow! I too would defiantly pick Black Ops too, it’s features are just endless. I can do what I have been doing in past CoD games, which is ranking up, but wait, with new pictures next to my rank! Oh boy don’t get me started on the mediocre Campaign Treyarch is known for doing, and CoD 3 as my reference.
Lol! You’re not biased at all /sarcasm.
If you’re complaining about more of the same, then look no further than the Call of Duty franchise. A Call of Duty game is released every year that has a slight change from its predecessor and is always half-assed because they are rushed in order to fit in a cramped 2-year development cycle.
Halo: Reach is going above and beyond what any console has every done. No other console game provides the level of customization and competitive nature that Halo: Reach has to offer. The last time I checked, the only thing you can do in Call of Duty is play “competitive” matches. Halo is the only game I know of where people literally hang out with their friends.
So stop posting biased articles like this because the only one you’re fooling is yourself. In fact, by posting such articles you are revealing your insecurity about Reach. You want to hate Reach, but you realize that it is too good to hate. Therefore, you post articles like this one in order to try to brainwash yourself and others in to believing in a lie. Halo: Reach will be a great game regardless of your opinion.
Call of Duty black ops? Really? You seem really uneducated about Halo if you think for one second Halo Reach is “more of the same”. If anything, Black Ops is “more of the same”. Another generic war shooter that’s going to introduce a few new guns. It’s probably still going to encourage camping, noob toobing, and have a crappy cooperative environment.
Halo Reach drastically improves Forge, Firefight, offers a dramatic and engaging Campaign, and has more customization options for game types than all the CoD games combined. On top of that, it has the LARGEST file sharing system on a console. Ever. And lastly, it’s community driven, meaning any maps the community makes in Forge will be able to get into Matchmaking.
For the same price, Halo Reach offers more. And what’s more– You can even take off shields and play it like call of duty. The only thing Black Ops is going to do is make MW2 look like crap. I’m looking forward to it myself, but Reach is obviously the better game.
Yeah, I think he is fucking retarded.
call of duty black ops is the same boring shit as modern warfare 2.
And that was a REALLY unbalanced and boring game where camping makes 90% of MP.
What a load of crap, you CoD fanboy. Reach is WAY more creative, inspiring, and fun than any CoD game ever made. I play MW2 sometimes but its not as good as Halo. CoD just has the same gameplay OVER and OVER again save for a few perks put in there to ‘change the game’. Reach has customization options that will change the game forever with INFINITE customization options. What does Black Ops have? Maybe a half-decent Zombie mode, but whats a zombie mode when you cant change how they react to you? Or how much they can hear you, or see you? Or what comes in a wave?
Eh. Ive has enough for today. Cya.
What is this guy smoking? Reach is completely different from the other Halo games.
Really? CoD: Black ops? Are you okay in the head? All the CoDs look the same. It has the same playing formula for years and years but everyone doesn’t seem to complain.
Your whole article is wrong my friend. Halo is bigger than The Call of Duty franchise. Where was CoD in 2001
Are you fucking retarded?
I disagree. Halo Reach is changing things signifigantly. With addition of armor abilities alone this game is going to play out very differently. Plus, that trailer revealed almost nothing about gameplay. In my opinion, Call of Duty: Black Ops isn’t changing things much for its series. I get the feeling Bungie learned a lot about their mistakes with Halo 3 (I found that game so boring).
You wish man. You wish. Halo: Reach is going to double the sales of black ops over the next three years, and to think anything different is just niave. And another thing, Reach has completley revamped the way the campaign will look and feel. For one your going to be playing along side equals to you. Another thing is that, if you read the IGN article a few days ago, they are including civilian personell and stories to the campaign, something that a Halo game has ever done. I think it’s not only bad journalism, but just flat out rediculous for you to make flat out insults against one of the most successful franchises and game developers in the industry. You need a new job sir.
You serious? Do you realie how much Halo has changed! The entire scenery is different because you are now on Reach. They have made it a sandbox game which means enemies now are in different spots every time. Then they added armor abilities such as jetpacks that you can use over and over again.
You are also now playing in a squad of spartans unlike in prior Halo games where it was just you. Then there is ForgeWorld which is probably the biggest map of all time that allows you to make anything you want and turn it in to a multiplayer map.
What did you want them to do? Make it a street fighter esque fighting game? You sir are an idiot if you can’t see the changes. In fact some have complained it changed to much. Go watch gameplay and stop whinning onthe internet about how it will be same old boring Halo if your opinion is uneducated.
You obviously know nothing about the game and do not deserve your job.
HAHA! And you say halo hasn’t changed? Then you go and pick a Call of Duty game for best in sales! Halo has adapted far more than Cod had and that’s the truth. PEACE
how many halo games have you ever played and beaten? everything about Halo Reach is different AND better in every way compared to previous Halo games. Bungie didnt spend over 3 years creating a repeat of the rest of the series. how about you get halo reach when it comes out, and THEN write an article on how you feel. After finishing campaign, experiencing forge, and playing multiplayer and custom games…you WILL realize its nothing like other halo games.
It’s bungies last halo…the best package yet with armour abilities to change it up Abit…you say all this about halo but then go on to pick black ops as your top selling game. Why don’t you write a article about how it only has the ability to fly a helipcopter and is the exact same as every other cod. Or are you some blinded cod fanboy.
Ur an Idiot
Are you kidding me? This is an entirely new experiece. It is full of new battles and fights. You can have hundredss of enemies in a single battle. Can Call of Duty do that? Did you even play the beta????? If not you are totally not right for this preview as a writer. Call of Duty might be good but Halo Reach iss the definitive end to the greatest series of all time. I am not a fanboy, actually I used to prefer Call of Duty, but it has become a world full of glitches, crying 4 year olds, and overpowered weapons. I think that Halo *will* be a better game this fall. It might not sell as well, but it will be better. WHat do you get in Black Ops? You can fly a helicopter for about 30 seconds….. You can’t even change the height of helicopter. Everything I have seen from call of duty has been there since the beginning. If something has nothing new in it then it would be Call of Duty.
U American journalists, so closed minded, no imaginations, when u thing the same old war shit black ops is gonna beat halo reach, open ur mind, get some imagination, I think u guys have to much terrorism going on, u all are become patriotically obsessed by it, no wonder why the 2.7 billion dollar making avatar looses to the same old war shit hurt locker, what is society coming to, god help America, cause nothing else can save u all
@Law
Spending $2.7 million on a movie does not make it good if that’s what you were getting at and the hurt locker was pretty damn good IMO (by the way I’m english so don’t pull the terrorism obssessed crap with me)
Anyway I still strongly disagree with this article. Black Ops looks almost exactly like MW2 (hardly surprising, they use the exact same engine)
If you think Call of Duty: Black Ops is going to do better than Halo: Reach then you are fucking insane. At least have a clue of what you’re talking about before you spew stupidity all over the internet. Don’t judge the game on this one trailer. There’s actually two other ones and plenty of other videos about new features in Reach. Start digging Call of Duty’s grave man.
Stop being so cod fanboy and make a real review. Halo reach will have many things like forge, firefight, matchmaking and many more things.
you sir are an idiot this is a completly new campaign does not look like any other Halo Game it has much more depth its more of a character driven story i cant evan belive you said that God you are clearly a Cod Fan i dont understand why botherd to wright this artical it has caused more trouble then it was worth.
I’ll say it right up front–I’m a Halo fanboy. But I didn’t used to be. I used to brush it off as a generic FPS. Then I played Halo 2 online and got hooked (to the multiplayer). It wasn’t until my skills at the game improved and I went back and played the campaigns on Legendary difficulty that I really started to appreciate the story.
This is a trailer for the campaign, it’s 60 seconds long because it’s a television commercial, which means that Microsoft had more than a hand in crafting it, which probably accounts for statements like “the most anticipated game of 2010″. Bungie would never be so arrogant to make such a statement. Their games speak for themselves.
I urge players who have brushed off the franchise to take another look at it with Reach. There really are a lot of compelling features in this game–truly something for everyone.
