Maria Sharapova advances to Bank of the Classic Semis
The two Russian tennis players Maria Sharapova and Elene Dementieva met on Firday to play their Bank of the Classic quarter-final match, which lasted for almost three hours.
In the end, Sharapova had the longer breath and outlasted her opponent, winning in three sets 6-5, 2-6 and 6-3. Sharapova, the fifth-seeded, improved her record against top ten players to 6-3, after she came back from her break due to the shoulder surgery she suffered back in May. Her match against Dementieva was the longest match of the tournament so far.
Despite the stats, Sharapova is not entirely satisfied with her game, yet. She explained in an interview that she is not swinging through her shots properly. However, she was able to count on her service.
Based on her most recent results, Sharapova has high hopes to fine-tune her game to get in shape for the upcoming 2010 U.S. Open, set to start in four weeks.
