Activision Admits Pre-Owned Industry Is A Problem
Activision’s Thomas Tippl has revealed that the gaming giant are looking into more ways to get into the second hand video game market.
Responding to a question in a recent call to investors which asked about Activision’s strategy to make money from the pre-owned video games market Tippl replied…
“We are still evaluating various possibilities for greater participation in the used-games business. What’s been working the best so far is providing additional content and therefore limiting the supply of used games. So that’s a proven strategy that we will continue. And any other initiatives, we will be talking about when we get closer to it.”
These days, with the amount of post-release DLC released it doesn’t make much sense to buy a game, beat it and then trade it. Take Mass Effect 2 for example, the steady stream of episodic DLC has made me hang on to my copy and it’s the same with Alan Wake, as long as I know there is more DLC to come I won’t sell that either.
