Will Ferrell is back! His new comedy, “The Other Guys” where he stars opposite Mark Wahlberg, opened in the top spot at the box office this past weekend earning $35.6 million in ticket sales. This marks Ferrell’s second biggest opening ever. The film knocked “Inception” which has been ruling the top spot for several weeks, out of first place.

While “Step Up 3D” opened in third place, it was the weakest opening for the trilogy with a gross of $15 million in its first weekend out.

Total box office from the same week last year, however, was down about 7 percent.

“Inception” is still holding strong and although bumped from the top spot, earned a healthy $18.6 million and a second place finish. In its four weeks of release, it has earned a total gross of $228 million.

“Salt” rounded out the top four. It dropped a reported 44 percent in ticket sales but it was enough for a fourth place finish earning $10.9 million.
