According to Variety, Warner Bros has hired Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix writer Michael Goldenberg to begin work on a screenplay for Green Lantern 2. Despite Green Lantern 1 not being scheduled for release until June 17th, 2011, Warner Bros are moving ahead with the sequel.

Late last week it was leaked on the web that Warner Bros were considering filming Green Lantern 2 and 3 back to back.

Previously, Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim were hired to write a treatment for Green Lantern 2.

Filming has just wrapped on Green Lantern 1. The production took place in New Orleans.

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and Angela Bassett. It is directed by Casino Royale director Martin Campbell.
