Lucas Film has revealed that the Star Wars movie saga is headed for Blu-ray.

Yep, from next year we will be able to watch how George Lucas intended us to watch his classic saga.

Star Wars Blu-ray has been rumoured for some time now but Mr. Lucas has always been reluctant to just churn his movies out onto the platform. Instead of cashing in on the Blu-ray craze as soon as he could he has instead chosen to wait until enough people bought Blu-ray players.

Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration V Convention Lucas revealed the reason why he has held his beloved movies back…

“We’ve been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it. We came out with ‘Star Wars’ right at the beginning of VHS and we sold 300,000 copies. They were selling 1 million, 2 million, 10 million. So we learned from that experience that if you’re too early in the marketplace, there’s just not enough demand for it.”

Lucas went on to reveal that the original trilogy will be the special edition releases which were released theatrically back in 1997.

Yep, that means that Greedo will still shoot first.
