For the second week in a row, “The Expendables” retained its first place position at the box office. In spite of five new releases, the Sylvester Stallone film fended off the competition.

Although the film proceeds fell off some 53 percent from its initial weekend, it earned an additional $16.5 million – enough to hold on to the top spot. Its total gross to date is near $65 million.

In second place was “Vampire’s Suck” the spoof film targeting the mega-popular “Twilight” saga. The film grossed $12.2 million over the three-day weekend.

The Julia Roberts film, “Eat Pray Love” dropped 48 percent from its opening weekend but was able to finish in third place earning an additional $12 million. Since its opening 10 days ago, it has grossed $47 million.

The Bow Wow movie, “Lottery Ticket” rounded out the top 4 earning $11.1 million. It did however generate good word of mouth providing future potential for the film.
