Merry Talks About The Hobbit Movies
Dominic Monaghan or Charlie from Lost or Merry from the Lord of the Rings trilogy or jammy real-life boyfriend to Lost’s Kate has been talking to MTV about the proposed Hobbit movies. In particular Monaghan was keen to point out that as far as he is concerned, only one man should direct the proposed Lord of the Rings prequels…
“I can’t really imagine anyone other than Pete directing The Hobbit. You have to understand, the world of Middle Earth has already been created by Peter Jackson, by his special effects company, both physical and digital. It would almost be impossible for a director to come in and bring his own thing because how would he colour Middle Earth and how would he create Gollum (without WETA’s input)? It’s almost like asking someone to paint a picture but giving them no paint.”
The star, who was actually born in Germany warned that should a new director step in and take charge of the Hobbit movies then there is a real chance that loyal fans of Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy could boycott the prequels…
“Unless he’s either producing or directing not only will the film not correlate with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I think the vast majority of the Lord of the Rings fans will boycott the film because Pete had so much to do with that franchise.”
If any of you are thinking that Monaghan is all pro-Jackson because he thinks that with the bearded one at the helm he may have a chance at a sneaky cameo in the prequel, don’t worry, he’s not about to cheapen the franchise in that way…
“I wouldn’t want to cheapen the strength of The Hobbit, which is really the story of Bilbo and Gandalf and various other characters. To kind of cookie-cutter in the characters that people grew to love in Lord of the Rings, I think might not be incredibly fair to an audience who really loved that book.”
A couple of days ago Peter Jackson revealed that Warner Bros and MGM would have an announcement for us soon regarding the status of the The Hobbit movies.
Dominic Monaghan can be seen next alongside Sean Bean, Christian Slater and Ving Rhames in Soldiers of Fortune which sees a group of rich adrenaline junkies pay huge sums of money to insert themselves into actual military conflicts. It ‘s due out in February.
