Next Mission Impossible Movie Will Not Be Called Mission Impossible
There’s been a lot of activity on the Mission Impossible 4 production lately. First we found out that Pixar director Brad Bird would be, um, directing and then there was the whole will he/won’t he return in regards to Tom Cruise reprising the role of Ethan Hunt. Next we received news that Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg would be returning while finally we got word that Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner had signed up the project.
Well, now we’re being told that Mission Impossible 4 won’t be called Mission Impossible 4, instead the studio is opting for a name more along the lines of The Dark Knight. (which was really Batman 2) Thing is, The Dark Knight is one of Batman’s nicknames and when you hear someone mention the name Dark Knight you instantly know it’s Batman that they are talking about, even before Chris Nolan’s blockbuster sequel. Thing is, off the top of my head I just can’t think of a title that would instantly make me think; “ooh, that’s a Mission Impossible reference…”
Anyway, enough title talk. According to Variety; Paramount are looking at the fourth Mission Impossible movie as a reboot of sorts which to me at least doesn’t make much sense when you cast the original stars in their original roles. Surely Paramount, if they are really thinking reboot, should have wiped the cast clean and started all over again?
The next instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise is set to hit cinemas on December 16th, 2011.
