Warner Bros. has bought up the rights to Bruce C. McKenna’s World War 2 pitch: The Battle of Midway. According to Deadline, The Battle of Midway will focus on the period between June 4th and June 6th, 1942 which is generally considered to be the turning point in the war.

Bruce C. McKenna, for those of you unfamiliar with the name has worked on the period war dramas The Pacific (he wrote seven episodes) and Band of Brothers (he wrote three episodes).

It is expected that McKenna’s The Battle of Midway will carry a two hundred million dollar budget and will be filmed in 3D. McKenna is working on the script right now and is expected to hand in his first draft within the next eight weeks.

Akiva Goldsman will produce through his Weed Road production company. Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn and Hal Holbrook starred in Jack Smight’s 1976 take on The Battle of Midway which used actual footage of World War 2.
