Melanie Oudin in second round of 2010 U.S. Open

The last event of the annual Grand Slam series started today in New York City. And last year, Melanie Oudin, all of a sudden and completely unexpectedly, played in the quarterfinals, as the youngest female player since Serena Williams in 1999. The expectations are high and today she had to overcome the first hurdle in her opening match at the 2010 U.S. Open against qualifier Olga Savchuck of Ukraine. Oudin won relatively easily in two straight sets 6-3 and 6-0. Melanie Oudin is currently ranked 43 in the world and she played solid tennis all throughout the match, compiling 20-3 winners and visibly pumped-up. Last year, Oudin ousted Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva on her…

Kim Clijsters takes first hurdle at 2010 U.S. Open

She is the defending champion and the expectations are high. It is not always an easy situation for the highly favored player to make it through the first rounds, as everybody expects straight and easy wins. Clijsters played well in her opening match against Hungary’s Greta Arn who is currently ranked 104th. But the Belgian had to overcome a little bit of a lapse in the second set of her 2010 U.S. Open first round match. She took the first one easily with a 6-0 but then quickly fell behind 4-0 in the second set. Arn was then serving for the set at 5-4 when Clijsters managed to break her opponents serve, eventually closing out…

Robin Soderling and his 2010 U.S. Open first round struggle

Robin Soderling made it into the second round of the 2010 U.S. Open. Barely! His opponent Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer, the 214th in the world, almost caused a major upset. Soderling started the Open as 5-seeded and today he could not really count on one of his biggest weapons, his strong serve. He committed a total of 13 double faults. His opponent hit 34 aces, Soderling only 9. As the match started, everything went according to plan for the Swede who took the first two sets and had even match points in the third. However, the rookie from Austria fought back hard and hit his serves with speeds up to 134 mph. Haider-Maurer is 23-years old…

Guns N Roses Slammed For Poor Attitude

According to Newsbeat, iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses have been slammed by festival organizers after turning up late for both the Reading and Leeds music festivals. Also, lead singer Axel Rose was criticised for hurling expletives at the organisers of the festivals after they had to stop the band’s performances after they went over their allotted time slots. Lost Prophet guitarist Mike Lewis commented on the incident by saying… “It was so predictable that he was going to be late that nobody bothered questioning why. It’s so predictable, it’s boring. I don’t see it as him being a rock star or rock ‘n’ roll. I just see it as being disrespectful. It’s disrespectful to…

Reynolds and Cooper to Star in Turner Action Comedy

Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper look like they will be teaming up to star alongside one another in an as yet untitled original comedy from the guy who brought us the George Clooney flick Up In The Air. According to Risky Business the comedy… “Follows two friends, who are also San Francisco cops, whose fathers were once partners on the police force. The older generation is forced out of retirement to help their sons crack a case, with typically antagonistic results.” Sounds like it could be fun. Obviously Reynolds and Cooper will be playing the sons of the older cops and personally, I would love to see Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino team up once…
