Andy Roddick is the 2003 U.S. Open champion and came to New York this year with high hopes. However, on Wednesday night he was ousted in his second round match against Janko Tipsarevic in four sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

The Serb used an interesting tactic, starting off with slow, high top-spins and then gradually moved to a faster pace, with many all-or-nothing shots. Roddick told the press after the match that his opponent played high-risk tennis over four sets.

The American took a lead 5-2 in the third when a foot fault was called on him. Roddick ended up in an argument with the lineswoman and umpire Enric Molina.

However, even though the incident apparently upset Roddick, he was a fair sport after the match, attributing the fact that he lost to Tipsarevic’s excellent tennis, and not the official’s call.
