Discovery Channel under siege
James Lee, who was identified by officials as the man behind a hostage situation at the headquarters of the Discovery network in Maryland, has a history of protesting the programming on the channels.
Discovery Communications, which includes over 100 networks including Discovery Health, TLC, Animal Planet and Planet Green, has gained an audience by running shows such as “Kate Plus 8” and “19 Kids and Counting.”
Authorities say that Lee was unhappy about the programming on the networks. He wrote enraged notes complaining of their frivolous programming. According to reports, the offender was also arrested outside of the headquarters last year when he was caught throwing money in the air in protest of corporate greed.
Lee was killed by police after he told them that he had planted bombs in the building as well as attached them to his own body. According to authorities Lee was a violent man that was mentally ill and homeless.
