There are certain products out there with sticker prices that are way out of whack with the price that they should cost. In these economically challenging times when many of us are pinching pennies, these everyday items are all too expensive.

With many consumers feeling the effects of the economic recession, they are saying no to these items. Maybe this will signal the sellers of these products to drop prices to within the realm of reason.

Here are six items with unnecessarily high prices:

1. Fashions with a brand name – the fact is clothes that carry a designer name are marked up an average of 500 to 1000%.

2. Ink for your printer –most of the profit for printer makers is on the ink that they hock to consumers after they purchase a low-cost printer.

3. Textbooks – textbooks account for 26% of college costs overall.

4. Greeting cards – the markup on your sentimental message is a whopping 100-200%.

5. Bottled water – it was revealed by Congress that about 45% of water that is bottled is actually from municipal taps. Even still, 500 million bottles are sold every week.

6. Popcorn at the movies – the markup on average for popcorn you purchase while going to a flick is 1275%.
