The match between Maria Sharapova and Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic was rather uneventful. The Russian tennis star won in two straight sets 6-1 and 6-2. Sharapova, who entered this year’s Open as the 14th-seed, was at times more bothered by the wind than her opponent on Thursday night.

The Russian top player is aiming for her second U.S. Open title and fourth win at a Grand Slam tournament. She can certainly play some great tennis, but also knows how to dress suitably for a night session on center-court.

Her outfit was held in dark blue with a black collar which resembled the appearance of a tuxedo.

Sharapova is now scheduled to play the young American Trice Capra. The 18-year received a wild-card and is currently ranked 371st in the world. Her 2010 U.S. Open performance is similar to Melanie Oudin’s last year surprise-run, where she defeated Maria Sharapova unexpectedly.
