It looks like Neil Gaiman’s seminal comic book series The Sandman will not be getting the movie adaptation treatment after all after Heat Vision reported that work is underway into to turning the comic book series into a TV show.

According to Heat Vision, Warner Bros are in the early stages of securing the rights to the Sandman property from DC Entertainment and have apparently already started to talk with various writers and producers with regards to the TV adaptation.

Apparently, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is the studio’s top choice for the adaptation and it is thought that Sandman’s creator Neil Gaiman is not onboard the project which according to some media outlets could cause problems later on in the development process.

For those of you who aren’t overly familiar with the Sandman comics, here’s a copy and paste jobbie from Gaiman’s official website which will give you some background on the important characters within the Sandman universe.

“Only that there are seven brothers and sisters who have been since the beginning of time, the Endless. They are Destiny, Death, Dream, Desire, Despair, Delirium who was once Delight, and Destruction who turned his back on his duties. Their names describe their function and the realms that they are in charge of. Several years ago, a coven of wizards attempted to end death by taking Death captive, but captured Dream instead. When he finally escapes he must face the changes that have gone on in his realm, and the changes in himself.”
