Ann Widdecombe Wants To Be John Sergeant
Former Conservative MP and contestant on the upcoming eighth season of Strictly Come Dancing Ann Widdecombe has revealed that she was inspired to take part in the BBC’s hit TV show after watching John Sergeant’s appearance back in 2008.
In an interview with the UK Tabloid; The Sun, the 62 year-old revealed…
“I took inspiration from John Sergeant. Watching him was the thing that persuaded me to do it. I’m this year’s John Sergeant!”
John Sergeant famously withdrew himself from the competition back in 2008 after the public routinely voted to keep him on the show despite the heavy criticism he faced on a weekly basis from the judges.
Widdecombe went on to reveal that it is the technical aspect to the show, and not the physical aspect that she is struggling with…
“The training is very tough. We’re doing over five hours a day. I am fit, so I don’t find it physically draining. But technically it’s murder! I’m like a pantomime act – four steps behind everyone else. I’m doing it for fun. I don’t dance, but I am enjoying it. I shall be looking for a dance partner who can cope with my ineptitude.”
But Widdecombe was keen to stress that there is no need to worry for her as even if she is voted out of the competition on day one, she will not lose any sleep over it…
“I don’t think I shall be remotely emotional if I get voted off the first week, but if I stay in I’ll enjoy it. Either way I win.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns this Saturday at 6.25pm on BBC One.
