Novak Djokovic beats Gael Monfils in 2010 U.S. Open
Novak Djokovic beat Gael Monfils in three straight sets with 7-6 (2), 6-1, 6-2 in the 2010 U.S. Open quarterfinals.
With today’s win, the Serb advanced for the fourth consecutive year into the semis at the New York City tournament. He will now have to play the winner of the match between the world’s number 2 Roger Federer and Robin Soderling of Sweden. The match will be played later on Wednesday.
Again, the wind was heavy today at Arthur Ashe stadium. But the 2008 Australian Open champ Djokovic still managed to play aggressively and scored 40 out 59 points at the net.
His French opponent was slipping and sliding across the hard-court, often trying to play overly sophisticated which cost him many points. In situations where a regular swing at the ball would have sufficed, he tried to hit it between the legs.
Novak Djokovic made it into the U.S. Open final in 2007 and also reached the semi-final in 2008 and 2009. All three times he was ousted by Roger Federer.
