Before the 2010 U.S. Open started a week and a half ago, it was unclear how well Venus Williams would have recovered from her knee injury that sidelined her since Wimbledon.

But five rounds into the tournament, nobody can seriously doubt anymore that she will have a good shot at the women’s single title. And remarkably, her semi-final opponent and defending U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters was among the first players who publicly stated that Venus’ tennis is better than ever.

Clijsters said in an interview that Venus seems to be more hungry than ever before. She’s more aggressive, steady and focused.

Clijsters and Williams have met-up a total of 12 times and the score is split. However, the Belgian has won the past four matches and she also beat Venus in the fourth round of last year’s U.S. Open.

The second-seed has now a record streak of 19 consecutive wins on the courts of Flushing Meadows.
