Vera Zvonareva played it smart in her 2010 U.S. Open quarterfinal on Wednesday against her opponent Kaia Kanepi. She advanced to the semis with a two straight set victory 6-3 and 7-5.

Zvonareva played in the Wimbledon final in June this year and she will now meet the winner of the match between the top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki and Dominika Cibulkova.

Kanepi struggled mainly with herself and the windy conditions at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. She committed a total of 60 unforced errors versus 18 winners.

Zvonareva explained in a press interview after the match that it was all about finding the right balance. The key for her win was her ability to make the right decision between just keeping the ball in the game and going for the right shots.

Kaia Kanepi was disappointed after the match, however, her performance at the Flushing Meadows tournament was remarkable, especially the way she turned around her previous match against Yanina Wickmayer.
