Gore Verbinski In Talks To Direct Lone Ranger Remake

It seems that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski could once again team up with Johnny Depp; if Deadline are to be believed when they claim that the director is in talks to direct Disney’s The Lone Ranger.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the remake and it kind of makes sense that he would want Verbinski on board after the success the pair had with the Pirates trilogy.

Johnny Depp is, at this moment in time attached to play Tonto, the Lone Ranger’s Native American sidekick though there’s no word yet as to who will play the masked hero.

Verbinski has long been linked with the Bioshock movie, first as the director then producer but, forgive me the pun, that project seems dead in the water so it seems that he will have plenty of time for the Lone Ranger remake. Question is, does it matter if Verbinski directs the Lone Ranger? With Disney backing Bruckheimer to produce the movie, it’s almost as if any director can step in a deliver a solid offering.
