Marcos Baghdatis of Chile had a good start in the 2010 Malaysian Open. He cruised to a two set straight victory over Kei Nishikori winning 6-1 and 6-1 on Tuesday to advance to the next round.

Baghdatis lost his first round match at the 2010 U.S. Open unexpectedly a few weeks ago. He will meet with Santiago Giraldo. After the match he told the press that it wasn’t easy for him to stay focused on his game as he hasn’t been playing for the past four weeks.

Baghdatis stated that he was happy about the fact that he managed to keep his opponent off balance which prevented him from finding a way into the match.

In other first round matches on Tuesday, two qualifiers also advanced to the next round. Igor Andreev of Russia won in two straight sets over Go Soeda with 6-1 and 6-4. And Milos Raonic of Canada prevailed over Igor Kunitsyn in two close sets with 7-6 (6) and 6-3. Andreev will now play the defending champion Nikolay Davydenko.
