Former United States President, Jimmy Carter has been hospitalized in Cleveland, Ohio. According to Jackie Mayo, a spokesperson for the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, he was on an inbound flight when he began to experience an unknown health issue.

At approximately 11:30 AM EST, America’s 39th president was taken to the hospital after the plane was met by paramedics when it arrived.

According to reports, Carter was in Ohio promoting his newly released book, “White House Diary.” He was set to do a book signing in Lyndhurst, a suburb of Cleveland at the Joseph-Beth Booksellers.

The president will turn 86 on Friday. He has recently been traveling around appearing on many talk shows promoting his book.

Since 1981 when Carter left the office of president, he has been a devotee of the Carter Center in his home state of Georgia. The center helps to fight disease in underdeveloped nations, monitors elections and works toward peace on an international level.
