Shocking New Study Links Heavy Smoking To Dementia
A new study into the effects of heavy smoking has produced terrifying results. The study showed that smokers who have a 40-a-day habit are twice as likely to suffer from dementia than people who don’t.
It had already been suggested that there is a link between smoking and Alzheimer’s but this new study, which used over 21,000 peoples medical records seems to add real data to support those claims.
In fact, according to the study, if you smoke two packs a day (equivalent to forty a day) then you have a 157% chance of suffering from Alzheimer’s in your later years.
But don’t worry. The risk does seem reversible as the study also suggested that if you give up smoking in your middle ages then the risks of Alzheimer’s drops sharply.
According to Dr. Simon Ridley who works for the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, he thinks that the results from the study should act as good enough reasons for those smokers who are considering kicking the habit…
“This study will surely add to an ever growing list of good reasons to quit.”
While Ruth Sutherland who represents the Alzheimer’s Society confirmed the risks to smokers…
“Research has shown that smoking is extremely harmful, and significantly increases the risk of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s, with smokers being twice as likely to develop the disease as non smokers.”
If I was a forty a day smoker then these results would scare the nicotine cravings right out of my system.
