Yahoo Mail Getting Major Revamp
Yahoo has announced that Yahoo Mail is set to get its biggest revamp since 2005 so that it can compete with Google Mail and Microsoft Hotmail.
The focus of the new revamp seems to be focused on merging Yahoo Mail with social media applications like Facebook and Twitter. Yahoo Mail serves a massive 279 million users and Yahoo are hoping that by adding new functionality to their mail service, Yahoo Mail will become to go-to site for all of their users social needs.
As well as the ability to update your Facebook and Twitter feeds from within Yahoo Mail, the new revamp promises better spam control, the ability to view pics from Picasa and Flickr , view videos from Youtube from within their e-mail inbox and a offer more dynamic search bar.
According to industry analyst Greg Sterling, the new Yahoo Mail revamp is critical if Yahoo want to show the world that they are still relevant…
“Yahoo Mail is a critical product for the company with an enormous user base. The challenge for them is to make having a Yahoo Mail address cool. It has lost some of its chic or cachet to GMail among early adopters or the tech savvy so there is a brand issue there. In the past I would have said people don’t want all these functions in their e-mail box but with people now having so many sites to visit this makes sense. I think if Yahoo Mail performs well, they will win people over,”
