X-Factor Contestant Reveals She Thought Having A Baby At 17 Would Ruin Her Pop Ambitions

X-Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson has revealed that when she found out that she was pregnant at age 17, she believed that her chance of ever making it as a professional singer was over.

In an interview with The Mirror, she revealed that before she found out she was going to have a baby, she had been very active on the audition trail and was even trying out for West End productions…

“I was sure I’d blown my chances when I got pregnant quite young. I was going for auditions in the West End, and someone wanted to be my agent. But I got pregnant when I was 17 and had Lillie at 18 and my singing got side-tracked. Now I have a little boy and a little girl, and I want to give them both a better life. I know singing means some time away from them, but that’s the sacrifice you make. Some people want to be famous for fame’s sake. I can genuinely say I don’t. I just want to be a singer.”

<<<THOUGHTS>>>

Normally I am pretty negative towards the X-Factor. My problem with the show is that it teaches youngsters that they don’t really have to worry about paltry things like song-writing and actually learning a musical instrument, as all you need to have is a half decent voice and the money men will provide the rest. But every now and then you see someone like Rebecca Ferguson and you realize that if it were not for shows like the X-Factor and the lesser talent shows then performers like Ferguson would have nothing to dream about.

Good luck to her I say.
