Medal Of Honor The Novel By Chris Ryan
This year’s big FPS release for Xbox 360 and PS3 is EA’s reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise. Released on October 12th, Medal of Honor was well received by critics for its realism and in-depth online multiplayer.
Video website Gaming Target said that Medal of Honor “takes the FPS genre to a whole new level.”
Impressive praise indeed. The story for Medal of Honor picks up during the immediate aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks. From there your adventure takes you to modern day Afghanistan.
I won’t go into any more depth as to do so will ruin the experience somewhat. But I will say that for a video game Medal of Honor had a plot that was surprisingly deep and left the gamer wanting to know more.
Well, it seems that EA are one step ahead of us as they only went and signed SAS writer Chris Ryan to write a novel that serves as a prequel to Medal of Honor.
I’ll now hand you over to Peter O’Reilly (he’s the marketing manager at EA btw…) who believed it was only a matter of time before a high profile author got in on the video game scene.
“A major videogame will have week one sales in the hundreds of thousands, whereas a best-selling book will be in the tens of thousands, so it was only a matter of time before a leading author decided to write a literary adaptation of a game and tap into that ever-growing audience. Naturally we’re delighted to have worked with Chris Ryan to produce an authentic prequel to the Medal of Honor game, which we hope will appeal to both videogame and book fans alike.”
Award winning author Chris Ryan had this to say…
“Bringing together the disciplines of literature and videogaming has been a new and compelling experience for me as a writer. Hopefully I’ve produced a book that brings together the different worlds to not only introduce the Medal of Honor story to a new audience, but also encourages a new generation of young people to pick up a book and read a story that they are naturally interested in.”
As an avid reader and video game junkie I am pretty excited about the EA/Ryan collaboration, I’m a big fan of Chris Ryan and in particular Bravo Two Zero so I am absolutely chomping at the bit to get my hands on his take of the awesome Medal of Honor. Hopefully this will start a trend in the video game industry. Just imagine some of the potential kick ass combos we could have…
A Fable novel by Terry Pratchett…
Alan Wake written by Stephen King…
A Dan Brown take on Uncharted…
The possibilities are endless…
