On last night’s results show, Paije Richardson became the ninth act to be voted out of this year’s X-Factor competition.

For the first time, Paije found himself in the bottom two and had to compete in a final showdown against Cher Lloyd. Paije’s rendition of the Sam Brown classic; Stop ultimately wasn’t enough to save him for the chop after three judges chose to send him home.

Simon, Louis and Cheryl all used their vote to protect Cher while mentor Dannii predictably used her vote to try and save her own act.

Paije was graceful in defeat and said…

“Obviously I didn’t have the support of the public and I’m grateful for them keeping me this long. Thank you.”

I think that if Cher didn’t give such a powerful performance in the final showdown then Paije would have been safe. Honestly, the way Cher sung Stay brought tears to my eyes. I have never seen a song performed on the X-Factor with such emotion.

She really meant every word.

Ultimately Paije couldn’t compete with that.
