Activision Rules Out Call Of Duty Subscription Based Multiplayer

All you COD heads out there can relax as Activision publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has revealed that the giant video game publisher has no plans to start charging for the online multiplayer component for future Call of Duty games. In an interview with Industry Gamers, Hirshberg finally put to bed the rumours…

“The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty, is absolutely integral to the experience and we’ll never charge for that. It’s not going to be something we’ll attempt to monetize – it’s part of the package,”

Hirshberg was responding to the constant claims from Michael Pachter who seems to predict, on a weekly basis that Activision are about to start charging for online COD…

“He’s probably looking at meta-trends in the world and in culture about online services and new ways things should be monetized from Netflix to cloud-based computing… But at the end of the day, all I’m trying to get across is I can unequivocally say we will never, ever charge for the multiplayer.”

<<<THOUGHTS>>>

You know what? I’d like to believe Hirshberg but there’s no way that Activision doesn’t start charging us for COD online multiplayer in the future.
