According to researchers who conducted a survey to find out who were the most popular celebrity newcomers, this year’s X-Factor finalists were the newbies that everyone was talking about the most.

The researchers compiled a “digital buzz” list and found that the X-Factor finalists made up the top four places.

Number five in the list of most popular celebrity newcomers went to late Paul the Octopus, who famously predicted the winners in this year’s football World Cup.

Topping the list was Cher Lloyd, followed in second place by X-Factor winner Matt Cardle while One Direction and Katie Waissel made up numbers three and four respectively.

David Wilding, the guy in charge of the survey said…

“Nobody would have been able to predict this list this time last year – except perhaps Paul the Octopus himself.”

Um, nobody would have been able to predict that the top celebrity newcomers would consist of X-Factor finalists?

Excuse me but that’s exactly who I would have predicted had you bothered to ask me Mr. Wilding.

Paul the Octopus was a bit of a wildcard I admit but the X-Factor finalists?

C’mon, who didn’t see that happening?

Although I am not surprised that Cher Lloyd was the most popular on the list, I really get the feeling that she’s going to transcend The X-Factor and make it big long after Matt Cardle and co. have gone back to their real lives.
