Jack Bauer Was Going To Be Killed Of In 24 Finale And President Taylor Would Have Been Blamed For it

In an interview with Assignment X, 24 producer Howard Gordon admitted that he seriously considered killing off Jack Bauer in the last episode of the final season….

“I… wrote that scene and in the end it felt too depressing. I think it would have been a really depressing moment [and] I don’t think it would have been surprising. In a strange way, [Jack's death is] probably the ultimate tragedy and probably the most politically correct ending, but it wasn’t something anybody wanted to commit to.”

He then added some details of how it would have played out had Jack been killed and said that President Taylor would have been blamed for his death…

“She would try to save Jack and it would have have been too late. Like Romeo and Juliet, it would have been the function of the timing of it.”

<<<THOUGHTS>>>

Dammit, they should have gone with that storyline. I’m a big fan of 24 and my understanding throughout its entire run was that the pay-off was going to be that we get to see Jack die a heroic death at the end.

I thought we had an “agreement” with the producers you know? I thought that if I invested all the time that I did that I would get a definitive “end” in the last episode?

But, as we all know, it didn’t end that way did it? It should have but it didn’t.
