According to CVG, the Xbox 360 port of Final Fantasy XIII was launched to extremely poor sales when it hit Japan. In its first week of being on sale , Final Fantasy XIII sold less than 23 thousand copies which for a Final Fantasy title in Japan is unbelievable.

2010 has been a pretty rough year for the Final Fantasy franchise. 13 went down like the proverbial excrement filled sandwich and managed to polarize the fanbase completely and as for Final Fantasy 14, well, it was what it was…

It will be interesting to see what happens next with the RPG mega-franchise. Square had better pull out all the stops with their next numbered effort or they run the risk of losing all the good will they built with the previous instalments.

Call me stupid but I see a Final Fantasy reboot being necessary in the next couple of years.
