According to Activision CEO Bobby “Count ‘Em” Kotick, Call of Duty developer Treyarch are not getting enough credit for the phenomenally successful Call of Duty multi-player component.

In an interview with CNN, Kotick said…

“I don’t think Treyarch got their due for how much they contributed in the production and polish to the multiplayer.”

He then added that the Call of Duty multiplayer attracts more people than Jay Leno, David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon combined…

“More people play Black Ops every day than watch Jay Leno, David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon combined. The audience of Call of Duty is probably greater in terms of size … than in any other interactive form of entertainment. If you look at the 500 million people who are on Facebook and the way that people text each other and instant message and use video chat, there is now an evolution of media. Those are the characteristics and attributes that a generation and audiences feel are very important to their media and entertainment experiences. And we expect that.”

I have always hated the way that Treyarch was unfairly compared to Infinity Ward. Personally, in terms of the single-player campaigns I have always preferred Treyarch’s adventures.

I was so happy for Treyarch when they smashed Modern Warfare 2’s records. Say what you want about how bad the storylines for the Call of Duty franchise have become but Black Ops made Modern Warfare 2 look like a Uwe Boll movie. (Though I’m pretty sure not even Uwe Boll would have made a movie with a story as bad as Modern Warfare 2’s)
