Dead Space 2 Insight And Review

If you were looking for something new in Dead Space 2, then you will be totally disappointed. I don’t mean that this new release is disappointing by any means though. Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are very similar in many regards and I did a tune up prior to the new release for about a week, as I thought that a refresher course would be in order to prime myself up for Dead Space 2. It paid off for me as I felt right at home upon kick off as far as game play was concerned.

A couple of weeks ago in an article I wrote previewing this game, I stated that not many games have been released that have actually scared me as the original Resident Evil did. I wish I still had that game in my gaming library just to revisit horrors of past. At any rate Dead Space actually brought that feeling back and actually gave me goose bumps with anticipation of what awaited me around the next corner.

Dead Space 2 brings that to the table also with more of the same goose bumps that Dead Space or Resident Evil did for me. What is really cool about this game is the setting. Outer space in itself is pretty eerie and unpredictable, the fear of the unknown can make ones blood boil and this series brings the fear of the unknown to the table. On the other hand there is nothing new here. Either you like it or you don’t. If you did not like Dead Space, than you will not like its sequel.

I have only been playing for a day and will try to share what I have experienced so far. The game is very theatrical; almost movie like and so far has remained that way. Unlike other games that have a movie flair and then part ways as you get into game play, the creator’s of Dead Space 2 have gone to great pains to keep the movie experience alive throughout the game so far, and is quite a production. There is a very eerie solitude type feeling in this game followed by violent attacks by Necromorphs in waves and back to solitude again. You go from scared to paranoid in an instant. I love and hate it at the same time, if you know what I mean. While hunting for supplies, my focus is only half there, as I am worried as to what is next and when it will happen.

The graphics in the game are absolutely breath taking and so far I have seen no tearing or shearing at all. The art work is very good and there is so much to see, one will have to play thru the game several times to catch it all.

Visceral Games has done a real good job so far of keeping me progressing thru the game with out having me going back and forth over old territory as Dead Space did, and with every encounter with the bad guys, I have been out of ammo or so low on health that I felt very lucky to be alive. I have found myself being very supply conscious and I try to make every shot count as the mow them down with no care to conserve will only get you dead. What is also very cool for me is I feel like Isaac Clarke, am I losing it. That remains to be seen.

I have not played online in coop as I am waiting for friends to pick the game up and play coop with me. It has been my experience that cooperative play is best done with friends that know what they are doing. One bad apple in the cart can ruin it for all, and unfortunately there are a lot of bad apples on line. I do know this much though, you can choose to be Human or play as a Necromorph in coop play.

I cannot rate this game for you at this point, but will keep you updated daily till I can. The only thing I will tell you at this point is, I like it and so far I am not at all disappointed. What I can tell you at this point is, you will not be disappointed if you pick up the game, it definitely is challenging and never boring, just be prepared to get scared. Stay tuned as I will be bringing you daily updates as I work my way thru the game. I will get back to the game now so I have something to tell you tomorrow.
