Nintendo Boss Defends Zelda 3DS Launch Absence
Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has defended the announcement that the Nintendo 64 remake; Zelda; The Ocarina of Time 3D will miss the launch of the Nintendo 3DS.
In an interview with MTV, Fils-Aime said that despite the Zelda remake being missing from the launch line-up, there are still plenty of games for Nintendo fans to get excited about and besides, Nintendo don’t like to release games that are not ready no matter how high profile they are…
“Mario, Zelda – all of those titles are coming. From our perspective, we like to launch titles when they’re ready. And so they’ll be ready, they’ll be ready soon. Just not in that initial time period of late March to early June.”
He then added that instead of focusing on what games are missing, gamers should be excited about the games that will be available and gave particular mention to Super Street Fighter 4 and the new John Madden game…
“I would say ‘Super Street Fighter 4,’ I would say ‘Dead or Alive,’ I would say ‘Madden’ and I would say, yes, the three first-party launch games that we have, as well. [This] is the best we’ve ever had for the launch of a new system. Between ‘Nintendogs + Cats’ and ‘Pilotwings,’ those two franchises, either on the original DS or on other legacy systems like the NES or Super NES, have sold tens of millions of copies. Those two franchises have a lot of strength all by themselves.”
He then singled out Steel Diver as an example of a new title made for the 3DS which fans should get excited about…
“‘Steel Diver’ is a brand new experience, and from a compelling standpoint, we think it’s awfully compelling.”
